How to Choose a Plumber

You deserve a plumber who is professional, licensed, and trustworthy. Here’s how to ensure you choose a plumber that will treat you fairly.

  • Look for a License

Ask your plumber for their Master Plumber license number, then visit the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners website to ensure it is valid and that they have a Certificate of Insurance. (By the way — DFW Sewer Surgeon’s license number is M-43549 😏)

  • Check for Any Complaints

With the license number on hand, call the TSBPE Enforcement Division at (512) 936-5200, ext. 65249 and find out if your plumber has had any complaints filed against them that you should know about.

  • Reach Out to Your Local Plumbing Inspection Department

Your local municipal plumbing inspection department can tell you if the plumber has any complaints on file that weren’t submitted through the TSBPE, if they have met the requirements to work in your city, and if the work they are providing requires a permit or inspection from the city.

  • Get a Detailed Estimate

Before you commit to working with anyone, ask for an estimate. The estimate should be clear and detailed, so you understand exactly what work is being done and for how much money. If it seems vague or unclear, it may be best not to move forward.
